gm-logoI’m headed into uncharted territory next week.

There is no doubt that you’re familiar with General Motors. With all the press that they’ve received regarding the bailout, bankruptcy, and other issues of late, the company name has been hard to avoid.

During the time that the initial upheaval was happening, I was in the middle of a promotion with Chevy. If you’ll remember, I was selected to drive a 2009 Chevy Traverse for 8 weeks. I had an extremely positive experience with the vehicle itself (never could get OnStar to work), but when it came time to buy the car … It was less than a pleasant experience.

On Tuesday, I was contacted by the Social Media team at General Motors to see if I would be interested in spending a day with them. Of course, I promptly replied “YES!!!” And the next thing I knew, a travel agent was calling to book my flight and hotel. (Wondering if this has something to do with me Tweeting the entire 48 hours I attempted to buy a car from two different dealerships in Houston?)

I received an agenda and there are several different activities planned. I’m very excited. As I told my husband, I could meet with the janitors and still think it was the coolest thing ever. I have no idea how many people were invited or will attend.

I’m very passionate about social media. It can be used for the positive; it can be used as an incredible communication tool; and quite frankly – if used correctly – it can gain a lot of positive exposure. (The keys to doing that are crucial though. You can also Tweet/Facebook status people to death, therefore LOSING business/friends!)

I’m excited to share with you what I can when I return from the trip. If you have any questions about General Motors – large or small – comment me, and if I can, I’ll find out the answer!
