I absolutely LOVE the Olympics! I can remember watching the 1980 winter games that were held in Lake Placid, NY in the basement of my grandparents house in Kentucky. I built a fort with an opening big enough to see the TV screen as I laid on a pool float covered with an electric blanket. (There was also a space heater running down there. Can you say “fire hazard”?)

In fact, during the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies, we had a huge project going on at work and our entire team had to work that night. I complained so much that the project manager bought me a copy of the opening ceremonies on DVD. LOL.

My favorite Olympics by far were the 1996 games. I fell in love with the US gymnasts – along with the rest of the country. They really were great examples of sportsmanship, beauty,  perseverance, and   youth!

My favorite was Dominique Moceanu. She was such a little spitfire! I loved the story of her gymnast parents and their dream for her to be great (although I know that later, that kind-of went south). But, none the less, she was a cutie and I adored her.

I was so happy to learn via Moceanu’s Facebook page  that NBC has shot an interview with 6 of the original Magnificent Seven. (Appears that Dominique Dawes is absent.)    The piece will air during the team finals in London, but there’s a great slideshow in place now where you can see images.
