Precious Punky,

Nine years ago today, God absolutely changed my life. This day will forever mark the time and place that I was trusted by God (and the state of Tennessee) to be your mother for all the days of your life. June 9 will never be the same for me again … for as long as I live.

Being the mom of a little boy, for many, is a daunting task. You, however, with your sweet spirit and calm nature make motherhood easy. Your kind heart and encouraging voice draw people to you.

You are wise beyond your 9 short years. I often laugh because your words and vocabulary are that of an adult … actually an elderly adult. You are still an old soul … something that we’ve thought about you for a long, long time. A constant teacher, you are not a risk taker in the least and will remind us all of the consequences of our actions long before we’ve even considered all the possibilities. You keep us straight and you keep us honest!

Eight years old was such a great year for you. You had an awesome school year with a great teacher and classmates. You found a best friend that was perfect for you. It was so refreshing to see you come out of your shell. This year, more than any other, you gained a self-confidence that I   had hoped would surface one day.

You are as perfect as any child has ever been. Although you aren’t flawless, you certainly are perfect for me. I am a better person for knowing you and getting to love you every day. You make me laugh when you laugh … so full of pure joy. I absolutely love this stage of your life.

Avery, I might not be the perfect mom, but I can assure you that there is no way that I could love you any more. You have me wrapped around your heart as tightly as is possible. We have a bond that is very unique and most probably don’t even see. We are so much alike … it’s an amazing feeling to have this connection with you, my sweet sweet boy.

I’m praying today that 9 years old is good to you. I’m praying today that your heart is opened to all that come your way. I’m praying that you continue to treat people well and that they return the deed. But, most of all, I’m praying that God blesses your words and your way every single day for the rest of your life.

Happy birthday, Avery.

I love you to the moon and back!

Mom
