All aboard! It’s coupon train time!

What? You’ve never heard of a “coupon train”? It is one of the easiest ways to get rid of coupons that you don’t want/need and gain coupons that you can use.

The idea is simple:

(1) Find/form a group of friends that use coupons regularly. Think co-workers, friends at church, PTA friends, online friends  €“ anything goes. It’s really fun to join a nationwide group, because different regions of the country get different coupons. Put together a list, complete with addresses, and number them.

(2) Commit to clipping the coupons that aren’t useful to your family. For example, I don’t use diaper or pet coupons. We are stocked to the brim on hand soap and shampoo, so I don’t need those coupons. I’m full on medicine and band-aids, so those coupons are no good to me. So, when I get my coupons on Sunday, I look through the paper and find those types of items, clip them and put them in an envelope. So simple. (Also, feel free to put in Catalina’s – you know, the coupons that print with your receipt at the stores! Those can go in the envelope too.)

(3) Address the envelope and wait for yours to arrive!

ADDITIONAL INFO:

*Regarding the list, if you have 5 people. #1 will mail to #2, #2 will mail to #3, #3 will mail to #4, #4 will mail to #5, and #5 will mail to #1. Easy easy.

*Pick a day of the week to mail. Tuesday or Wednesday seems to be the most popular day on most trains.

*Delegate someone to be the conductor. People will go on vacation, people will drop off the train, new members will want on. It’s helpful to have someone in the lead.
