The National Hurricane Center has been watching a disturbance over the Bahamas the past few days. It’s a hot news item in Texas as we enter into the official beginning of Hurricane Season 2009. For some reason, I have always been fascinated by the weather. I even considered majoring in meteorology in college, but all I was REALLY interested in was being on TV and storm chasing … not taking loads of science classes and labs.

I know that it is horrible to think that I was a little excited to see the first disturbance show up in the ocean. We “hunkered down” for Ike last September and “sheltered in place”. We lost electricity for only 6 hours and had zero damage to our house. We were so lucky, but somewhere in the midst of it all – my husband and I admitted that it was all very exciting.

It was awe-ing to watch the winds howl through our neighborhood. It was amazing to watch how hard the rain could fall. It was humbling to know that God spared us from the worst of this horrible, horrible storm. But, I loved watching the weather happen all around me; weather like I had never seen it before.

And, thankfully, now that Twitter is all the rage, I can follow my local weathermen and stay up-to-the minute with the latest local information. (Didn’t that sound like a commercial?) Ahhhh … and the iPhone apps. I have WeatherBug, Accuweather, and The Weather Channel all installed at this moment.

It’s nerdy, but I fully accept it. With hair like mine, I need many sources to let me know the humidity level.
