I read something today that said “we all have the same 24 hours”. I’m sure that somehow isn’t true.
If I have the same 24 hours as everyone else, how come my house is a wreck, I have (currently) 900 unfinished projects, the dishes are in the sink, and I haven’t balanced my checkbook in 8 days?
About a year ago, a friend came to me and said that she wanted me to write down everything that I do each week. She wanted to know when I shopped for groceries, when I did laundry, how I cooked dinner, what times my kids bathed … everything. After I got past the stalker fears, I asked her “Why do you want to know these things?” She quickly replied “Because everything just works out perfectly for you. I want to copy what you do.”
Isn’t it funny that we always think someone else is doing it better? I’m SO guilty of that too.
I wish I were so-and-so. Wow, they’ve really got it made. Must be nice.
The grass is always greener, huh?
The older I get and the more I develop relationships, the more I realize that we all have our priorities in different orders and we all have our quirks. For me, quality time with husband and my kids is #1 for me. I have no problem letting dishes sit, floors remain unswept, or dust accumulate to spend time with my family – even if it’s just to watch TV together. I have other friends that could never go to bed with a dish in the sink.
I have an ideal 24 hours spreadsheet. (That’s one of my quirks. Lists and spreadsheets.) When I follow it, it’s a dream … when I don’t, it’s more chaotic but it’s ok. I’m not living to get ahead in the rat race; I just like being me.
What do you think when you hear the statement “We all have the same 24 hours.”? I’d love to know.
