Piper is prepping to be in a wedding. Well, actually, we are prepping Piper to be in a wedding. She’s the flower girl, of course. And, at the ripe age of 4 1/2, this is her second wedding.

She took her first trip down the aisle when she was 2. I didn’t know if she would do it. Although she is very out-going, she does have a bit of a shy streak. The saving grace was that Avery was the ring bearer. They walked the aisle together like it was their weekend job.

img_0945A couple of months ago, you might remember that I wrote about Piper being totally entranced with the Miss America pageant. That has not subsided. She still puts on plastic heels and parades into the room ONLY after we announce her name while she’s hiding behind the kitchen bar. “Miss Texas …. Piper Click” begins the evening gown competition as she works each corner of our family room, only slowing down in front of a full length mirror we have so that she can admire herself.

It’s quite comical. PS – don’t look at all the “stuff” we had to pile up and move out of the way for Piper’s make-shift pageant. Also disregard the sleeping child covered up with a towel (Avery). He pooped out during her talent portion of the pageant!

Needless to say, Piper’s really excited about the “dress up” part of the flower girl experience. Tomorrow, we’re meeting the bride, Sara, to pick out the flower girl dress. Know first that Sara is stunning. I mean absolutely beautiful. One of those girls that could wear a potato sack and be on the cover of Vogue. I don’t know what her bridal gown looks like or what she has in mind for Piper, but we’re game with whatever she wants. Or, at least, I am.

Piper gave me a list of her requirements last night.

#1 – It needs to cover her feet.
Thinking back to the Miss America pageant, all the gowns cover the contestants feet. I’m assuming that she’s trying to save us money by re-using this dress in the pageant that she’s been convincing her dad she should be able to do.

#2 – It needs to drag the ground in the back.
(See above photo). I told her that wasn’t possible. There was only one bride and she wasn‘t it! Her response: “Is this not my special day?” That initiated a conversation about how it was her special day, but it was Sara’s MORE special day. Piper had never considered that. I could see her 4 year old mind putting it all together. But, finally, she thought that would be ok.

We also discussed how Sara gets the final decision on whatever dress she will wear. (Regardless of her 4 year old “wants”.) That it’s Sara’s “special day” and she gets to make all the decisions about everything. Then the lightbulb went on – it was so funny to Piper put it all together. How cool to get to pick the dresses, the colors, the food, the cake, what friends will stand at the front with you … everything. Piper thought that was awesome!

The night ended with us talking about when it’s her wedding, Daddy will buy her any dress that she wants and she gets to make all the decisions. A little girl’s dream!

If I put back $10 per paycheck starting now, we might be able to pay for what she’s got in mind!
