Freezer Cooking: Part 1

One of the questions that has been flooding my inbox recently has to do with freezer cooking. I will say that this is something that I haven’t done before, but with the rising popularity of Pinterest – I keep seeing great posts and I’m very curious to see if it will work for me.

The concept is this: you buy the ingredients for several meals (like 20), cook them all in one day, then put them in freezer-safe containers to freeze. Then, you pull out one each day, thaw, and cook.

The premise is brilliant. You put in the time early, then reap the benefits throughout the coming weeks.

In studying this, I’ve found that there are a huge variety of items that you can freeze. Actually, I’ve been shocked at the number of recipes that I’ve found and the great number of people that have blogged their way through this topic.

Well, add one more to the list.

Here’s the way that I’m planning to do it and I would love for you to follow along with me:
* Step One – [This week] plan what meals I want to make, print the recipes, and write out a list of ingredients
* Step Two – Watch for said ingredients to come on sale and buy! This includes freezer bags & freezer safe pans
* Step Three – Eat as much out of the freezer as I can so that there is room for all the food that I’ll be preparing

I’m planning my “cooking day” for Saturday, August 18. I’ll be posting my recipes, ingredient lists, etc., so if you want to participate along with me – feel free! (I’m also planning to do some breakfast items that my kids can heat up on their own once school starts!)

To help facilitate a method to the madness, I’ve started a “Freezer Cooking” board on Pinterest. Feel free to follow the board and join the fun.

If you’ve done this before, or have helpful tips/articles – pass them along through the comment section.

… and remember, there’s no cents in paying full price! Let’s plan ahead and save even more than just time in the kitchen!!!
